Cut-to-size helper

Measure from a photo

This helper now lives inside the cut-to-size configurator, on the size step, where a rough size is useful. It gives an estimate from a photo taken next to a sheet of A4 paper; confirm the size on site with a tape before you order, or use the printable measuring pack.

Add a photo

Photograph the opening with a sheet of A4 paper held flat against it, straight-on (not at an angle), the paper is the known reference the maths uses.

JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 20 MB and 50 megapixels. Your photo stays in your browser, nothing is uploaded anywhere.

How to measure from a photo

Five minutes, a phone and a sheet of A4.

  1. Place a sheet of A4

Flat against the wall or frame, in the same plane as the opening, not on the floor in front of it.
  2. Take the photo straight on

Stand square to the opening, phone upright, the whole opening and the sheet in frame.
  3. Mark the sheet, then the size

Tap both ends of one edge of the sheet, then both ends of the opening's width and of its height.
  4. Check it with a tape

Allow ±5 mm even on a good photo. Confirm on site before you order.

What makes a good photo

Do

  • Shoot square-on, at the middle of the opening.
  • Keep the A4 sheet flat and fully visible.
  • Use daylight or bright, even light.
  • Include all four edges of the opening.

Avoid

  • Shooting from an angle or from one side.
  • A curled or folded sheet, or one on a different plane.
  • Wide-angle (0.5×) lenses, which bend straight edges.
  • Cropping an edge of the opening out of the frame.

Your photo stays on your phone

It is read in your browser to work out the size; nothing is uploaded and nothing is kept.

The result goes to the configurator as two numbers in the link, width and height, never the photo. If you want us to look at a photo, send it with a quote request instead.

What happens with the result

An estimate starts the order; a tape finishes it.

Continue to the configurator and the size is already filled in. Before anything is cut you check a dimensioned drawing of the piece, so measure on site and correct the size there if it differs. Not sure? Book a measure.
