Invoices, VAT and paying for your glass

How VAT shows on our prices, the ways you can pay online and at the counter, deposits on accepted quotes, pay links and why invoices name two companies.

On this page

Our prices carry VAT at 20%. Retail customers see prices including VAT, and signed-in trade accounts see prices excluding VAT, with a switch to change the view. You can pay online by card through Stripe, or at the counter by cash, card or cheque, and trade accounts with credit terms can pay on account. Accepted quotes of £2,500 or more including VAT take a 50% deposit.

Are your prices shown with or without VAT?

How prices show on screen depends on who you are:

  • If you are not signed in, or you have a retail account, you see prices including VAT.
  • If you are signed in to a trade account, you see prices excluding VAT by default.
  • Anyone can use the inc/ex VAT switch to see the other figure.

The switch changes the display only. The amount you are charged is the same either way. Every quote, invoice, credit note and statement shows the net amount, the VAT and the gross total in full, whichever view you used.

How can I pay online?

Checkout takes card payments through Stripe, including a card saved to your account. Your card details are processed by Stripe and never touch our servers. A gift card or loyalty points can go towards the total, and an express button such as Apple Pay may show where your device supports it. See ways to pay.

Can I pay at the counter?

Yes. At our branches you can pay by cash, card or cheque. Trade customers with agreed credit terms can also pay on account. Walk-in sales without an account are paid in full at the counter. Find the branch that suits you on our branches page.

Do I pay a deposit on a quote?

It depends on the total of the quote you accept:

Quote total (inc VAT)What you pay when you acceptThe rest
Under £2,500The full amountNothing more to pay
£2,500 or moreA 50% depositThe balance before delivery or fitting

This applies to quotes you accept. When you have paid a deposit, your invoice is for the full total and shows the amount paid and the balance due, marked "Balance before delivery". You can pay the balance from your order page or through a payment link we send you. Until it is paid, the delivery and the installation visit are held; read paying a balance.

Trade accounts that buy on agreed credit terms are invoiced in the usual way instead. See trade accounts.

We may send you a payment link to pay for a quote, or when an order changes and the new total is higher. The link opens a secure page where you pay by card.

  • A link for a quote lasts as long as the quote does.
  • A link for a change to an order lasts 30 days.
  • A link for the balance on a deposit order works until it is paid or we send a newer one.
  • If a link has expired, the page tells you, and nothing has been charged. Contact us and we will send you a new one.

Why do my invoices come from two different companies?

We trade from two branches, and each invoice is issued by the company that runs the branch it comes from:

BranchCompany on the invoiceUsually invoices
FulhamSW Glass Fulham LtdGlass
Park RoyalSW Glass LtdHardware

Each invoice carries the right company details, VAT number and payment details for that branch, so pay each one as it is printed. If you are not sure which invoice is which, ask us with your order reference.

What is the QR code on my invoice?

The QR code on the first page, labelled "Review us on Google" with the branch name, opens that branch's Google review page. If something was not right, we would rather hear it from you as well: contact us.

Read the balance as well as the invoice total

Keep the order, invoice and payment references together. A bank entry, credit note and refund are different records. Check allocation before paying again, and request a breakdown if the balance differs from your records. Use payment problems, invoices and credit notes or refunds for the relevant task.
